Get technical with MicroBoards – copy protecting DVD

Just as we have said previously MicroBoards offer the sort of personal service that you can normally only dream of attaining. In this post we’re looking at some of the more advanced technical features supported by the MicroBoards disc publishers.

Here we’re looking at the VideoWrite copy protection system and the merge field option in Surething (software that ships with MicroBoards)

VideoWrite is an easy to use dongle based application (you get credits on a USB key). Here’s a walk through from Ian Lawrence on the MicroBoards support team.

Using VideoWrite Copy Protection:

The VideoWrite option within PrintWrite allows you to copy protect any correctly formatted Video ISO file. This process has been added to the Burn Image project, allowing you to quickly and easily perform the needed steps to protect the video DVD content you produce using your Microboards Disc Publisher.

VideoWrite does not alter your original Video image file, but makes a protected copy of your file. While this allows you to retain the original file unchanged, it does require hard drive space on your PC. As the Burn Protected File process also takes additional hard drive space, you should plan on having at least enough additional free space for twice the size of the original file. For example, if you have a 4.35GB video ISO file you want to protect and burn, you will need an additional 8.8 GB of free hard drive space.

If the .ISO file you have selected is in the correct format for a Video image that has not been previously protected by VideoWrite and the VideoWrite USB Key is in place, the option to Copy protect the image file with VideoWrite will be available.
The available Burns Remaining on the key and the status of the ISO file will also be displayed.

Place a check in the box if you want to protect the image file. The Protection information will be displayed, showing the name of the protected file (the word ‘Protected’ will be added to the name), the file size, progress of the protection process and the Start Protection button.

Click the Start Protection button to create the protected file. The progress bar will show you how far along the protection process is. You can cancel the protection process by clicking the Cancel Protection button.

Once copy protection is complete, the File Name will change automatically to that of the protected image file, the Status will show that the selected file is protected, and the Copy Protection controls will be hidden. If the image file you originally selected is already protected, the Status will say so, and you will not need to protect the file again.

After the Volume Name and Number of Copies are entered in, click the Start button to submit the project. If you are using VideoWrite Copy Protection, you can only burn as many discs as you have Burns Remaining on your USB key.

Please note that any video DVDs protected and burned using VideoWrite protection will not be able to be duplicated, including in a Microboards duplicator. All production must be performed using the VideoWrite protection on your Microboards Disc Publisher.

Next time we’ll look at merging data into live text field on CDs and DVD in order to dynamically customise, personalise or serialise discs during production.

MicroBoards Disc Publisher products the best yet.

MicroBoards Technology manufacture some of the best systems for the in-house production of disc. Its’s easy to make a list of unique selling points that help differentiate their disc publishers and disc printers from comparative units manufactured by their competitors. Unfortunately MicroBoards has never experienced the market penetration attained by the market leaders, Primera. For this reason many uneducated customers may dismiss Microboards, purely because,

01) they haven’t heard of it

02) their friend told them a Primera Bravo was better.

As a completely impartial company, with UK stock of all lines from Primera and Microboards, we can say that the present range of MicroBoards products are excellent. Like Primera units they support both MAC and PC, but they have a host of features that mean they really lead the pack. The build quality is in another league to the competition, the throughput it often twice that of the competition, the ink costs are half that of the competition and the print quality is maybe 20% to 30% better than the competition.

Whats more, the MicrobBoards product range is distributed and supported by MicroBoards UK, and guess what, they are in the UK. The icing on the cake is the fact that the MicroBoards employees, staff and team are some of the nicest people you could ever have the fortune to work alongside. At CD-writer.com we have worked hand in had with them since they first came to market. They are both competitor and supplier and friends.

MicroBoards was and aways will be the outsider due to their late entry to the market, and true enough many of their products have been received with mixed reviews, but I can tell you today, that the present line of disc printers and publishers from MicroBoards, beat the competition hands down.

OK so a Primera Bravo is good, but the MicroBoards MX2 or PF-PRO is better.

David Bridle Blows CD-writer.com Trumpet

It seems we no longer need to blow our own trumpets, since our customers are happy to purse up to their own horn instruments.

We recently got the following feedback from independant video producer, web / print designer and all round creative David Bridle. You can see their company profile here.

[excerpt]

Thursday 5th March became a very bad day. It started off well enough, blue sky, sun and birds chirping, the usual niceties a day has before it decides to dump all over you. I got up, got ready for the day ahead knowing that I was going to London to do some filming, for an MPIUK event at Canada House, Trafalgar Sq. As I got to work everyone was in a jolly mood and so we joked and planned what we were going to do over the next few days to maximise our time while Paul was in the country. So we decided that we needed to do some video editing for his presentations.

I went to the studio and fired up the iMac with the 1TB Lacie HD attached. This is where things start going down hill, the HD would not mount, the power brick was hissing like gas coming out of a pipe and to top it all off the disk would not spin. This has all of my video projects for the last three years on it. It has the latest products that we have developed, our new Be Inspired series, which is rolling out in the next week or two. Everything! So now in my mind I have our latest products burnt off onto DVDs, so all I need to do is duplicate them before Sunday when Paul leaves for Australia and takes them with him.

So I get straight onto the internet to find a DVD duplicating system. I search through all sorts of sites and find CD-WRITER.COM. I look at there site, I find a 3 DVD copier, I talk with Paul about it and place my order. I proceeded to call them up and find out if they could get the burner to me for Friday or Saturday at the latest. At this point I didn’t elaborate on the problem I was facing and simply asked the question. However, I called back to ask if they could get it to me for Saturday and I expanded on why it was so urgent. The lovely lady at the other end was extremely helpful, she took onboard my problem and got on to helping me out. Let me point out that the reason they couldn’t do the Friday delivery was because they needed to assemble the burner. They didn’t have any pre-assembled. At this point the lady informed me that they could get the burner to me for Saturday but it will cost £40 extra for delivery on the weekend. Ok, so I agreed, however she said I will see if I can get this to you for Friday morning.

Now I am traveling down to London to do the filming. I receive an email informing me that the burner is now despatched and is shipping to me. Excellent, thinking that it will get to me Saturday. So the rest of the day goes by and I am happy that at least one on of my problems will be solved. The LaCie HD on the other hand is another issue.

I awoke this morning to find another email telling me that the burner is now out for delivery and will be delivered at the latest of 3pm. I am now extremely pleased, the burner has moved forward in time and will have ample time to get the DVDs burnt fantastic. I get to work just after 9am, we are all talking away in the kitchen when an Interlink delivery van pulls up. Oh yes the DVD burner has arrived. I am ecstatic, I have even more time and this is good.

Now I look at this whole episode and wonder why a company has gone out of its way to get that burner to me. They didn’t have to, they could have settled for the extra cash for delivery on the Saturday. No they didn’t do that, they went for the harder option of getting this burner assembled quicker, and sending out on that days shipment. Why? becasue they want the business, they want the repeat business, they care about their customers so much that they GOT IT DONE!

MicroBoards PrintFactory Pro Customer Case Study

Capture – Edit – Stream – Relive your Event

“My client requires quality prints and speed… to deliver their DVD and CD
media. ” Philippe Meurrens- Brussels – Belgium

Because the image is an effective tool to strengthen exchanges with
customers, suppliers, partners, employees or associates , MediaEvent
manufactures your movies on any media like CD-ROM, DVD and BluRay, internet, podcasts, streaming and integration on digital information displays. Mediaevent offers the design of all these means of communications and integrate it in allexisting diffusion-media on the market.

An event is unique.? Thanks to MediaEvent the memory of the event remains unique … forever.

The event can also be recorded on an interactive DVD and delivered in a
beautiful box customized to the event ..

Mediaevent duplicates itselfs his DVD’s and CD’s, with a tower made of
duplicators with components supplied by CD-writer.com 7 Pioneers recorders,1 Acard control unit, 1 Box and power supply . You can, if you want purchase assembled duplication towers at CD-writer.com

The tower can duplicate 7 DVD every 6 min. The media (CD or DVD) are printed in Full Color up to 4800 dpi with a printing robot MicroBoards PF Pro printer.

This robot allows me, with easy, to print up to 100 DVD or CD in a time. The
advantage of PF Pro Printer MicroBoards is not only reliability but also it is a
very economical printer. Having for each color a separate cartridge (Cyan 28ml -Magenta 28 ml Yellow 28 ml – Black 56 ml) I print between 1000 and 1500 DVDs with the cartridges. The printing cost varies between 6 eurocents and 15 eurocents a DVD. (Depending on the colors used, the percentage of printsurface and print quality) loading the DVD goes smoothly. The “Gillotin” takes each DVD one by one, and load it in the high quality HP-printer. 30 to 60 seconds later the media is put out at the front of the printer. ( the 100 medias are harvested there )

“Which is great with this printer is that I put it all started and … 1 hour and half later my 100 DVD’s are ready to be delivered to my clients. That’s profitability!”

I am using Photoshop® to make my lay-outs. The print driver works fine ( on a Mac 10.5.6 system ) and is very easy to use. It is a pity that the interface for Mac doesn’t includes color settings, which is included in operating systems for PC’s. I have the choice between Graphic quality and photo quality. In these choices you can choose Best and High DPI. I use high quality DVD like Tayo Yuden. And then using “Glossy-DVDs” the impressions are “more pro”. Amazing!

Why a Microboards PF Pro Printer ?

For several years I printed my DVDs and CDs with a printer Canon Pixma 4500. This printer prints at 4800 DPI and works with 4 different color cartridges. I was in search of a robot-printer that could give me the same quality of printing.

The team of professionals from CD-writer.com helped me to choose this DVD-CD printer. They advised me according to my criteria of requirements, print speed, quality, reliability and economics, the robot Printing MicroBoards PF Pro.

If you are looking for a DVD/CD printer with high-quality, economic prints, there is one model, the MicroBoards PF Pro-printer and I can advise you to purchased them at CD-writer.com ( professional- competent – price – pro advice). The purchase goes very fast. Make your order at CD-writer.com, pay your invoice and 3 to 4 days later you can enjoy your Microboards PF Pro printer.
